On-Site SEO: Brain Dean reveals his On Page SEO technique

You guys should be well aware of Brian Dean. An SEO expert from Germany who got his Masters Degree in nutrition science from Tufts University but he later changed his field and put his steps into the SEO industry because his nutrient blog wasn’t doing good enough.

As he states in on of his articles that after doing Masters in Nutrition science he started a blog to guide people about daily nutrition but he was not able to get good traffic despite the fact he had much better content than others.

Later, he start searching about Search Engine ranking factors and he was introduced with a new term “SEO”. He found many depths in this word and he kept on searching about Link building and other SEO techniques.

Because of his deep interest in SEO he was able to find out many factors that includes in Search Engine Ranking. After doing all the research work he realized that he has learned enough to start his own SEO copyrighting blog and he started Backlinko in 2011-2012.

He introduced some very awesome techniques to create quality backlinks. One of them was the famous Skyscraper Technique which got the attention of many and therefore Brian starts getting influence on SEO industry.

He kept on publishing some awesome tricks about increasing blog traffic and Search Engine optimization. He also published some awesome tricks to increase Email Subscribers. All he done was and is appreciateable.

But today we will just discuss about some On-Page SEO techniques that he has just sent me on my email because I am one of his Email Subscribers. By following these techniques you guys will surely be able to get more traffic and more leads from Search Engines. So here’s the trick:

But wait! In case you want to know more about Brain Dean then read this

Front-Loading Keywords into the Title tags

One of the most important factor we have on On-Page SEO is surely Title tags. By reading your titles for different posts Google spiders examine your page and understand that what really is your article about.

These H2 Tags have more value than 100 PR 0 backlinks. Even if you will get a ton of quality backlinks to your page and your h2 tag will be empty of the keyword then possibility of getting high ranking in SERPs is really low.

So what Brain did was that he moved his keywords into the very start of the title tag. For example, If the title was :

8 awesome ways to make money then he shifted Make money in the front therefore his title looked like this: Make Money: 8 Awesome ways.

We all know that Google puts some extra burden on those words which appear early in the title hence shifting your main keyword in the start of the title tag will be a good idea in order to tell Search Engine spiders that what your article is really about.

This will help you to get more leads and traffic from Search Engines

Cutting of Junk from URLs

Well, this is a technique from which I do not agree 100 percent but as Brain said that he chopped off the unnecessary words from his post’s URLs. For Example, If he had a post with this URL:

example. com/how-to-earn-money-online-8-awesome-ways then he subtracted all the unwanted words from the URL therefore the new links of his every single post looked like this:

example .com/earn-money-online.

Why I disagree?

I disagree to Brain on this point because slaughtering these so called unnecessary words(i.e. awesome, how-to) will do more harm than good.

Suppose a person is searching for some awesome ways to earn money online then which URL will appear first on SERP?

The first one or the second one?

Surely, the first one because it has some more similarities to the keyword from the second URL.

And if someone will just search for make money online then the possibility of first URL appearing first is still not less because it has all the keywords present in the URL.

There is a possibility that the second URL will come up first because it only consists of those keywords which are being searched by our imaginary user but this doesn’t mean that the first URL will disappear from Search Engine it can still compete for “Make Money Online” because all the three words are present in the URL..

Now here comes the backlink factor. Whichever page will have more backlinks will appear first. But let’s stick to On-Page SEO right now.

Linking to Authority websites

This is one of the biggest findings Brian has revealed in his post. I am completely agreed with Brian on this point. This is true, linking back to authority websites will also help you to get better ranking in SERPs.

I don’t know why but I have tested this technique to get better ranking in SERPs and the results were amazingly well.

So just keep on linking to authority websites like Wikipedia and keep on tracking the results. At-least link back to 3 quality websites in an article.

Why this trick works?

Well, Normally people don’t like to link back to other articles because they might think that by linking to other sites they will give some link juice to their competitors which will help them to get good PageRank from Google and will divert their traffic to another website which isn’t true.

Look, Google wants to send their users to the most informative pages on internet and for this they have launched several algorithms. So how does Google figure out that whether a page has quality information or not?

Well, there are more than one factor to find out the quality of a page or content but one of the major factors is outbound links. Google spiders will crawl your page and if they will find backlinks to authority sites from your article or content then chances of your blog getting good ranking in SERPs are more because now Google will consider your article more relevant and informative because you are linking to high authority websites.

That’s how the system works. Try it yourself and keep on tracking the results to find out that whether the trick works for you or not.

As far as diversion of your traffic to other websites is concerned by these outbound links, there is nothing to worry about because every single visitors which you will lose from an outbound link will help you to gain two other from the boost in SEO traffic.

Adding Modifiers to Title Tags

One more cool trick to share with you guys which will surely make a big difference and that is adding modifiers to the title tags. Yes, this trick works because majority of the traffic of a website comes from long-tailed keywords which will never appear on Google Keyword Planner.

So these modifiers will help you a lot in getting more leads from Search Engines. Here are Brain’s favorite modifiers for title tags :

2015, best, review, and checklist

These modifiers will really do the job for you because many people search for keywords along with modifiers. For Example: Yesterday, I was searching for some Opt-in form plugins for WordPress.

My keyword was “Opt-in form Plugins for WordPress”. I got many results and I moved to a page which referred more than 10 Opt-in Plugins. I was a bit confused that which one should I pick therefore I chose one of those plugins and searched for a review on Google.

The plugin name was “Optin Forms” hence my keyword was “Review Optin Forms WordPress Plugin”.

So that’s how the system works. Many people search for reviews, checklists and many will add the current year in the end of their keyword(for now it’s 2015).

And If you will have any of these modifiers present in your title then the possibility of your blog appearing on Top Search Engine Result Page(SERP) is pretty high because you have more similar and relevant keywords in your title.

1000+ Words Posts are still more efficient

The old trick still works. Brian states in his article that his every single high ranking post have more than 1000 words, at-least. He said in his article that;

“Sure, a lot of so-called “experts” told me that no one online will read anything that has more than 400-words.

But after a lot of testing, I’ve found this to be complete BS.

You see, when you create a valuable resource on a topic someone cares about, that person WANTS to read a lot about it.”

Make sure that the density of your keyword is balanced in your content. Don’t try to over use your keyword in the article or your readers will get nothing but irritation.

  • Hi Husnain,

These are some great tips on on how to do on-page SEO properly. I would recommend using Yoast SEO for on-page SEO. The most important thing to keep in mind would be the keyword density. The idea keyword density is 3-4%. The other thing would be use to keywords as alt tags for your images.

Yoast SEO also recommends using your keywords in h2 and h3 tags. Linking to authority sites is always good. They help in creating trust among your readers.

Thanks for sharing these valuable tips.
