Hey Blogger users, today we are going to talk about Blogger SEO. Google Blogger is the world’s second largest platform after WordPress for Bloggers where they can create their blogs and start getting attention from the online world. We have already talked a lot about Blogger widgets and templates so today I decided to share some key tips with you guys which are very easy to be done but effective.
We are going to talk about some very small but key factors that will supercharge your ranking and will help you to boost your search engine traffic. So let’s start:
Use Meta Description for your Blog posts
I know many Blogger who don’t give much attention on adding meta description, this situation is more worst for Blogspot users.
So make sure that you have put a meta description tag for your blogger site to make sure that you are not lacking any where when it comes to Blogger SEO.
So first go to your Blogger->Settings->Search preferences and enable search description and then add a brief but relevant description to your site. Make sure that you use your targeted keywords in your meta description logically.
Now let’s come to the second thing and that is your posts’ meta description which has a very key role for your article’s search engine ranking.
Whenever you are writing a new post, make sure that you add a meta description for your post. For that go to Post settings->Search Description and fill your meta description with relevant keywords.
Replace h3 tags with h2 tags
By default Blogger uses h3 tags for your post titles which is not a good SEO practice. All SEOs recommend to use h2 tags for post titles and headings. However, WordPress uses h1 tags for post titles.
You can choose anyone from h2 and h1 tags but h3 tag is not useful for your search engine ranking for sure. So to replace it with h2 or h1 tag, go to your Blogger Dashboard-> Template-> Edit Template and search for this code or similar to this one:
<h3 class='post-title'> <b:if cond='data:post.link'> <a expr:href='data:post.link'><data:post.title/></a> <b:else/> <b:if cond='data:post.url'> <a expr:href='data:post.url'><data:post.title/></a> <b:else/> <data:post.title/> </b:if> </b:if> </h3>
Once you have found it, replace the starting <h3> tag with <h2> or <h1> tag(get consultancy from your SEO consultant about this topic) . Also replace the ending </h3> tag with </h2> or </h1> tag.
This is a very vital Blogger SEO tip, so make sure that you follow this one for sure.

Keyword Research for your Blog posts
Whether you are using Blogger or any other web development platform, keyword research is very important. Especially, when you are targeting a niche which has high competition in the market.
There are numerous platforms that claim to be the perfect keyword research tool but I use only few that have great reputation in the industry.
One of them is Google Keyword Planner, then SEMRush and finally Webtexttool. These are some very high quality and tremendously great tools to find high paying keywords.
Read this article about keyword researching.
Once you have done your keyword researching it’s time to use them in your post correctly. For that I have some great tips that I can gather for you right now in few lines, have a look:
- Use your keyword in the very beginning of your post
- Use your keyword at-least 6 times in your post
- Use your keyword in your post URL
- Use your keyword at-least two times in meta description
- Make sure that your post consists of more than 500 words
- Use modifiers like “in 2016” or “latest”.
- Improve your site’s speed
- Don’t use highly rich anchor text when linking to other sites
- Also make sure that you use rel=’nofollow’ tags when giving links. Especially, for highly competitive keywords
Your site’s bounce rate also has great importance for your search engine ranking, that is the reason why modern SEOs are emphasizing so much on improving their users’ experience.
You should make sure that a user stays on your site for a long time. For that you should publish high quality content and must consider one more thing when giving links and that is to always use target= “_blank” attribute for that click on “link” button to give a link and mark “
Use Blogger sitemap
Majority of people here know what is a sitemap, sitemap is a simple map of your site which tells search engine spiders about the depth of your blog.
This information is very useful for search engine spiders to crawl each and every page of your site. Now Blogger sites have their own sitemap generated by Google.
Enter your blog’s URL on your browser and add “/sitemap.xml” after it. For instance, “yoursite.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml”. However, the automatically generated sitemap by Blogger has few limitations which are described by our fellow blogger Muhammad Mustafa Ahmedzai on his blog.
You can generate your own sitemap, just go to the link which is shared and read more about generating a sitemap.
Once you have managed to get your sitemap URL, go to Google webmaster tools -> Crawl -> Sitemaps and finally add your sitemap URL as shown below:
Make your post titles SEO friendly
If you are using a free Blogger template then you may have noticed that your blog’s SEO is not already done and you have to make optimizations manually, due to this reason posts appear in a strange way on search engines. Your blog name appears before your blog post’s title.
For example, your blog name is “Free Blog” and your post title is “How to make a blog?”, then your title will look like this “Free Blog – How to make a blog?” which is not search engine friendly because your targeted keyword is thrown away.
To correct this problem go to your Blogger Dashboard -> Template – > Edit Template and search for this code “<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title>”.
Once you have found it, replace it with this code:
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'> <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title> <b:else/> <title><data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/></title> </b:if>
